BURHOP'S SEAFOOD STORE
Unlike big box stores and chains, we are able to get our
fresh seafood into our cases faster than virtually any other retailer selling
fresh seafood in our area. Our cases are designed to keep the fish at exactly
the right temperature, to ensure that the fish is delicious. Below is a list of
the many items we have in stock at different times of year. Not all items
are available in every season, because regulations to protect the future of
wild caught fish require that the fish are allowed to reproduce.
SPECIAL ORDERS: Because we use restaurant suppliers, we have access to some more unusual or
expensive items that are not regularly available, such as genuine Dover sole, French turbot, finnan haddie or
lutefisk. If you want something special, we will do all we can to source it for you. (A minimum order may apply). Call the store at

If you have a favorite oyster, we can usually special order them with
2 days notice. We usually have blue points from the East Coast, and
frequently have kumamotos from the West Coast.
NB: Some fish appear on more than one list because they are caught in more than one ocean.

Once fish or seafood is frozen, we recommend that it should remain frozen until just before it is prepared. There is nothing wrong with properly frozen seafood - in fact, virtually every kind of shellfish is transported frozen, because it's so perishable. The issue of quality arises when retailers "thaw if for your convenience." Rarely a good idea, because once thawed, the fish deteriorates very quickly - it should be cooked as soon as it's thawed, not put out in a fish case.
CRAB LEGS: KING, SNOW; CRAB CLAWS: JONAH, STONE & SNOW; SHRIMP (shell-on, PDV, various sizes), SCAMPI, CRAB MEAT; AUSTRALIAN LOBSTER TAILS, MAINE LOBSTER TAILS, MAINE LOBSTER MEAT, SQUID, CLAM MEAT, SOFT SHELL CRABS, SEA SCALLOPS AND BAY SCALLOPS. (Scallops that are sold as "fresh" are treated with chemicals - it's better to by "dry pack" previously frozen scallops.)
SMOKED & CURED SEAFOOD:
We carry a wonderful selection of Ducktrap Farms cold smoked salmon and trout, plus we get our own custom hot smoked fish done just for us in Chicago. We also sell nova lox, cured salmon that melts in your mouth. We take custom orders for fish that we don't regularly carry, such as smoked trout or smoked whitefish. We get fish smoked twice a month, so if you need something special, plan ahead.
Also in the smoked fish case is caviar - we carry a variety of caviar during the Christmas and New Years holidays, and can special order it for you any time of year, just give us a call 48 hours before you need it. We do not sell endangered Beluga caviar, but we do sell American sturgeon caviar, which is delicious.

Not all items are available every day, the selection varies, but if you call ahead we can make
most things to order, depending on the availability of raw product. Offerings change regularly, and we're always adding new items.
APPETIZERS:Crab Cakes, Spreads: choose from Shrimp, Crab Blend, Smoked Salmon or Smoked Whitefish; Sun Dried Tomato Bruschetta, Vine Ripe Bruschetta, Poblano Pesto & Sundried Tomato Pesto; when in season Arugula Pesto, Basil Pesto, all great on warm toast points or our Tiny Toasts. Also our party trays make great party treats with no work for the host!

We no longer sell wine. The village of Hinsdale raised the price of the local liquor license extremely high so it no longer made sense to sell wine.
